Remedial massage techniques source and treat the cause of musculoskeletal dysfunction. This involves the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including the muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Our trained therapist palpates the patient’s body to determine the condition of the tissues and the likely source of pain in order to devise the correct form of remedial treatment.
At Medella Wellness we use two techniques, a mechanical action and a reflex action.
Mechanical action: Moving the muscles and soft tissues of the body using pressure and stretching movement, thereby cleansing them of acids and deposits, creates a mechanical action that breaks up fibrous tissue and loosens stiff joints.
Reflex action: A reflex is created when treatment of one part of the body affects another part of the body by nerve pathways, or flows of energy known as ‘meridians’. So, by using reflex action, a therapist may treat a patient’s stomach complaint by massaging the arms, and will alleviate pain in the legs by massaging the lower back.
We may also use Deep Tissue Massage (DTM) techniques focusing on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and working on releasing chronic muscle tension.
Common conditions treated through massage include:
• Muscle tension
• Joint pain
• Lower and thoracic back pain including sciatica
• Headache relief
• Neck Pain
